Joseph used the family name of Bissitt in earlier life, as that was his mother Sarah's, family name. Sarah was George Lindon's "housekeeper", from whose Will on 30 August 1783 it was quite obvious that he had had no intention of marrying her, although the farm which he owned was left to her son Joseph. Soon after George's death, Joseph changed his name to Lindon, which family name was passed to his children. Joseph's wife was married to him using the name Bissitt, and retained this name when he changed his to Lindon.
