Moritz Landgraf von Hessen-Kassel (of the House of Hesse-Cassel) also went by the nick-name of Mortiz 'the Bearded.' He gained the title of Landgraf von Hessen-Kassel in 1592. He abdicated as Landgrave of Hesse-Cassel in 1627.

He married Sabine von Württemberg (of the House of Württemberg), daughter of Christoph Herzog von Württemberg (of the House of Württemberg) and Anna Maria von Hohenzollern (of the House of Hohenzollern), in 1566. He died in 1592.1
He gained the title of Landgraf von Hessen-Kassel in 1567.

Philip I Landgraf von Hessen (of the House of Hesse) was the son of Wilhelm II Landgraf von Hessen (of the House of Hesse) and Anne von Mecklenburg (of the House of Mecklenburg). He was born in 1504. He married, firstly, Christina von Sachsen (of the House of Wettin), daughter of Georg 'the Rich' Herzog von Sachsen (of the House of Wettin) and Barbara Jagellon (of the House of Jagellon), in 1523. He married, secondly, Margarete von der Saale in 1540. He died in 1567.1
He gained the title of Landgraf von Hessen in 1509.2
